Curious about the handpan? The ethereal sound is often mistaken for something ancient, but it is in fact a very young instrument. The first handpan was created in 2000 in Switzerland by PANArt Hangbau. Each handpan is tuned to a different scale, and the number of notes can vary between 8 to 25 or more. The instruments I play are from a number of different makers: Handromeda, Spirit Handpans, Elysian Handpans. They are hand-crafted/tuned and made of stainless steel.
